Youth Now Program
The main objective of the Youth Now Program is to provide young people with an opportunity to develop employability skills and to gain work experience needed to secure future employment. During the internship, interns are paired with a mentor who acts as a guide and adviser.
The mentors have volunteered to participate in the program and are keen to help the intern benefit from their work experience. Applicants will be invited to attend a week-long assessment. The assessment week will assist youth in identifying their strengths and areas for improvement from which realistic goals and action plans will be developed.
Candidates who go through the assessment week benefit from career planning and academic assessments, regardless of whether they receive an internship opportunity or are referred to other employment programs or community services.
Youth Now participants will receive Pre-Internship Training. This training will include the following topics:
- Importance of Education
- Conflict Resolution
- Work Safety
- Personal Development
- Time Management
- Self-Management
- Teamwork
- Money Management
- Workplace Ethics
- Communication
- Personal Presentation
- Goal Setting
- Problem Solving
- Health
- Computer Skills
To be eligible for this program, interns must be:
- In receipt of Employment and Income Assistance or considered to be "youth at risk"
- Between 18 and 29 years of age
- Able to commit to a full-time internship during the day
- Not attending school full-time or working full-time
- Able to satisfy security requirements of the positions available: child abuse registry and criminal records check.
- Human Resources and Skills Development Canada
- Manitoba Education, Citizenship and Youth.
